How to Play Roulette

Roulette is one of the most popular casino games of all time. It is played at a very fast pace and has one of the largest selections of different bets of any casino game out there. It allows for many different bankroll management strategies to be put into place, mainly due to the betting choices that are offered.

There are various different versions played in land-based and online casinos around the world. From 룰렛in South Korea to рулет in Mongolian, roulette is one of the most highly regarded casino games available.

Game Rules

It’s really easy to start playing roulette. All you need to do is select the bet that you want to make and then place it on the table before the dealer announces that no more bets will be taken. When playing online roulette, this usually takes place just after the ball lands on the wheel. It will vary from game to game, so make sure that you get your bets placed early to avoid any issues.

Once your bet is placed, and the wheel is spinning, the game is on. If your bet comes up, you will be paid out. If it doesn’t, you lose your stake.

When playing European or French roulette, there are also two other rules that are applied. The first of the two rules is called La Partage. This is a rule that is only active when you have placed a bet for even money. We will cover the different types of bets later on, but an example of an even-money bet would be red or black. Whenever a bet such as this is in play, the La Partage rule will return half of the stake to the player if the ball lands on the zero. This allows players the possibility of a slight return on the off chance that the ball has landed in the zero position, which isn’t covered by any standard winning or losing options.

There’s also another rule that sometimes comes into play in place of La Partage. It has a lot of similarities and statistically offers the same level of return. However, the way that it works does make it a different rule. This is the En Prison rule. This rule also comes into play when an even-money bet has been placed, and the ball lands on the zero. However, half of the stake isn’t returned to the player in this situation. In this case, the money remains on the board for the next spin. If the original bet is then a winner, the whole stake is returned to the player. However, if it doesn’t win, the player will lose their stake.

Different Versions

There are a large number of different ways to play to roulette. They are mainly the same as each other, but with a few slight cosmetic differences. However, there are two versions of the game that are the most popular. These are European and American roulette. These two games are pretty much identical except for one huge difference. European roulette has just a single zero space on the wheel. American roulette has two zero spaces on the wheel. As both games have the same payouts, it means that European roulette is generally a more desirable game for players to try out.

As previously mentioned in this roulette guide, there’s also a different version of the game available that has either the En Prison or La Partage rule in place. These rules can sometimes be available when playing European roulette. However, they are most commonly offered to players who are playing French roulette.

There’s also a faster-paced version of the game called Rapid Roulette. As the name suggests, this is played at a frantic pace. Players can also try out live dealer versions of roulette if they want to try something that is a bit more immersive.
